Celebrating 10 Years of Photographic Innovation
June 17–22, 2025 | Volkshaus Basel, Rebgasse 12

Switzerland’s premier art fair dedicated exclusively to photography returns for its milestone 10th edition. Once again PHOTO BASEL will transform the Volkshaus Basel, a cultural hub masterfully renovated by Herzog & de Meuron, into a vibrant platform for contemporary photographic expression.

This year, 39 galleries from 15 countries will present more than 450 works by 150+ artists, spotlighting both emerging voices and established talents.

Supporting the fair’s expanding global reach, first-time participants include Momentum Fine Art (Miami), Galerie Sophie Scheidecker (Paris), Lightworks (Sydney), and others.

EXPANDING THE MEDIUM
Beyond Photography will showcase fine art photography artists pushing the boundaries of the photographic form.

Highlights include:

  • Sophie Zénon’s botanical photograms, examining war’s trace through displaced flora.
  • Silvio Maraini’s spectral bat sonograms, capturing nature’s hidden frequencies.
  • Diego Brambilla, blending photography with sculpture to question perception and authenticity.
  • Mika Horie’s wabi-sabi cyanotypes, echoing the transient beauty of rural Japan.

World Premieres and Fresh Discoveries section introduces never-before-seen works, including:

  • Chris Tille’s Mythos Licht, which maps light as a historical and artistic force.
  • Anna Lehmann-Brauns Burlesque series, a shift from architectural interiors to embodied performance.

EMPOWERING FEMALE PERSPECTIVES
In partnership with Annabelle Magazine, selected works by women artists will be highlighted throughout the fair, promoting visibility and diversity in contemporary photography.

SWISS VOICES, LOCAL STORIES
Swiss photography remains a strong pillar, with works by legends like René Groebli, Arnold Odermatt, and Monique Jacot, alongside contemporary artists such as Kostas Maros.

PUBLIC PROGRAMS AND NEW PARTNERSHIPS
Free guided tours, panels, and artist talks will foster open dialogue and discovery. In parallel, Photo Basel Special presents Martin Zeller’s haunting photographs of Basel’s evolving industrial sites, exhibited at the Franck Areal in collaboration with Baubüro In Situ.

Photo Basel proudly partners with Vontobel, Helvetia Insurance, Jaguar Land Rover and Roche Bobois to bring this edition to life, with the Maurice de Mauriac Award rounding out a program rich in creativity and connection.
